About the Event
Between 1875 and 1902, Black jockeys achieved significant success in the Kentucky Derby. Join us as we celebrate History & Tradition.
Here are a few notable jockeys:
Oliver Lewis rode Aristides to victory in 1875.
William “Billy” Walker won aboard Baden-Baden in 1877.
Isaac Burns Murphy achieved three Derby wins with Buchanan in 1884, Riley in 1890, and Kingman in 1891.
Alonzo “Lonnie” Clayton became the youngest Derby winner at age 15, riding Azra in 1892.
